Louise Hurlbutt began her Interior Design career during her husband Ralph's 20-year international banking career with the Mellon Bank. She became interested in design while working in Tokyo for internationally renowned fashion designer, Hanae Mori. In the mid 1970's Louise studied at the New York School of Design and took advantage of a 5-year stint in London to study at the Inchbald School of Design. Louise honed her design skills and developed her wide array of resources while living in New York, London and Philadelphia. Her love of art and antiques coupled with classic design training and extensive travel to places such as Afghanistan, Philippines, China, India and Australia added several enviable dimensions in her approach to interior design.
While traveling to or residing in each country, Louise took advantage of the opportunities available to her. For over 30 years Louise has pursued the passion she found in Tokyo. She continued her formal education, and augmented it by her interests in art museums and antique auctions, and finally started importing antiques from the countries where she had lived. All of these ventures led to the Hurlbutt Designs of today - a thriving business offering retail and design services to clientele nationally. Louise Hurlbutt's interior design work has been featured in many well-known publications, including Better Homes and Gardens, Coastal Living, Country Living, Hamptons Magazine, and Accent.
